Yes, Chubb medical coverage and Crisis24 assistance apply to travelers anywhere in the world outside their home country, as long as they are participating in Tulane-approved activities during the designated start and end dates. This includes side trips within those dates. However, side trips to higher-risk countries or locations—such as those comprehensively sanctioned by OFAC or experiencing active, ongoing conflict—require prior Tulane approval.

While Tulane does not offer a personal or leisure travel insurance policy, we recommend a product offered through Gallagher. This policy can be used for personal vacation travel or leisure travel before or after your official Tulane-approved trip dates. For more information, visit Travel Insured by Gallagher.

Reach out to Crisis24 via the dedicated contact details below.  Crisis24 provides 24/7 medical, security and emotional assistance to TU travelers traveling abroad. This includes liaising with Health Special Risk (HSR) to answer the scope of coverage and benefits questions under the Chubb insurance policy and identify medical providers abroad appropriate for care.

•    E-mail: debrablack@hsri.com
•    Mail claims to: 8400 Belleview Drive, Ste. 150, Plano, Texas 75024

Payments at Point of Care: While abroad, you may need to arrange for medical care abroad, including guarantying payment for medical costs upfront, as a condition to receiving care (e.g., medical treatments or prescriptions). Crisis24 can assist by liaising with HSR/Chubb, provide guidance on coverage, agreeing to serve as guarantor for medical bills, and directly paying medical providers abroad.  This differs from travelers personally incurring the cost up-front and then having to request Chubb reimburse them after-the-fact, as discussed below.

Reimbursement Requests: Generally, most medical costs abroad will be paid directly by the traveler to the medical provider. These out-of-pocket costs can then be submitted to Chubb as a claim for reimbursement. Travelers who would like to file a claim should:

  1. Fill out the claim form, which you can download HERE.
  2. Send the completed claim form and any necessary supporting documents (e.g. copies of itemized doctors’ bills, proof of payment, etc.) to gallagher@hsri.com.

Please direct international insurance and scope of coverage questions to Crisis24.

The maximum coverage period you may purchase for a trip is 180 days. However, you may purchase a new policy for a trip lasting longer than 180 days

Yes. Tulane policy requires that all travelers abroad carry primary health insurance, even when traveling outside the U.S. Information about the mandatory health insurance policy for students is available HERE.  In some cases, the primary insurance policy in which the Tulane traveler is currently enrolled may not cover certain conditions or needs while abroad.

As a Tulane student, faculty, or staff engaged in University-related travel abroad, the international health insurance policy provided by CHUBB (Master Policy No. GLM N186660489R) provides supplemental emergency coverage for the duration of your TU related travel. Please take the time to review your own personal health insurance and its coverage parameters. The insurance supplied by Tulane University is meant only to be supplemental to your personal insurance.
