Learn more about the program below:

Jewish Family Service of Greater New Orleans (JFS) is a social service agency serving people of all faiths. We are dedicated to preserving, strengthening and enhancing the well-being and self-sufficiency of individuals and families at every stage of life.

One of our programs funded through the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) serves foreign-born children who are fleeing dangerous situations in their home countries and arrive in the United States as unaccompanied minors. These children are most often attempting to escape tragedies of gang violence, organized crime, child abuse, sex trafficking, domestic violence, abandonment, the death of parents, labor exploitation, corruption, medical illness, and extreme poverty. Along the journey, these children are prime targets for additional victimization, as they face the risks of being kidnapped for ransom, trafficked, or sexually assaulted. They arrive with very little money and no one left to ask for help. Many of these children persevere, but reaching the border is only the first step.

The children identified as the most vulnerable are assigned to case management services through programs like the Unaccompanied Minor’s Program, managed by JFS, in order to ensure they have access to protective factors and available resources. In the past few years, families, friends, and agencies have chosen to donate to our program to help them celebrate the holidays in a way that would otherwise not be possible.

We’re currently accepting monetary donations through gift cards or cash/check contributions. If you would like a receipt for tax purposes, please leave your name and email address with your donation.
