Welcome to the NTC Office of English for Academic and Professional Purposes (EAPP). Our program is dedicated to fostering our students' professional and academic excellence and promoting interaction and communication both within the Tulane University community and with the global community as a whole. Our program is composed of two main branches: EAPP for international students, and TESL for current and future ESL teachers.
If you are interested in working in a global classroom consider our teaching ESL (TESL) program. It consists of four classes on methods, structure, language/culture, and curriculum design. For more information go to tesol.tulane.edu Students interested in connecting with the international students on campus in an informal setting should check out the conversation partner program.
Tulane now offers now offers a 4-course Teaching English Learners (TEL) add-on endorsement through the School of Professional Advancement (SoPA). This endorsement provides in-service and pre-service teachers the content and skills needed to become qualified to teach English as a Second Language, both in the United States and overseas.
The courses are offered online to ensure high-quality, rigorous training as well as flexibility and accessibility for those currently working in the field. We offer a Summer Institute for two of the TEL courses. The 2021 Summer Institute schedule is:
Summer I: June 7–July 2
Summer II: July 5–July 29
One course will be offered each session. Courses will run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4:00 P.M.–6:30 P.M., with additional asynchronous course time.
If you are interested in perfecting your English, please visit English for Academic and Professional Purposes. English language classes are currently only open to students enrolled at Tulane University.
Conversation Partner Program
The Conversation Partner Program pairs an international student with an American student or fluent English speaker to allow them to practice their English in casual, conversational setting and to help them adjust to life here at Tulane. This program helps to bridge the gap between the International and American communities on campus. Partners are created within the first few weeks of every semester, and pairs are expected to meet at least five times per semester, for at least an hour each time. This is a great way to meet people you wouldn't ordinarily meet and help an international student have the full Tulane experience. For more information, contact us at LearnEng@tulane.edu.
For the Spring semester, partners will be paired February 1st on a first come, first serve basis.
