Newcomb-Tulane College Scholarships for Study Abroad
The Darden Fellowships for Study Abroad provides awards to qualified Newcomb-Tulane undergraduates to contribute to cultural activities that will enhance the study abroad experience. This fund is available through a generous donation from Tulane alumnus Mr. Toby Darden, '76.

Program-Specific Scholarships
Many institutions will offer grants and scholarships for students studying abroad on their program. Listed below are institutions that offer scholarships for programs that are approved by Tulane. Check with your individual program to see if they offer any merit and/or need-based scholarships.
National Scholarships
Benjamin A. Gilman Undergraduate Scholarships Program provides undergraduate students with limited financial means with up to $5000 to pursue overseas study. Students who plan to study Critical Need Languages and receive the Gilman Scholarship are also eligible to receive an additional $3,000 Critical Need Language Supplement from the Gilman Program. The deadline for Spring 2013 semester is TBD. The deadline for Fall 2013 semester and Academic Year 2013-2014 is TBD.
NSEP/Boren Scholars: The National Security Education Program (NSEP) funds students to study outside Western Europe for a semester or a year. The campus deadline for the NSEP scholarship for Academic Year 13-04 (includes summer 2013, fall 2013 and spring 2014) is TBD. Rotary International offers scholarships for study abroad, but you must apply months in advance. Contact your local Rotary chapter for deadlines and details about the application.
BUTEX (British Transatlantic Exchange Association) offers a $500 scholarship to students who have been offered a place as a study abroad student in a UK university which is a member of BUTEX. The deadline for the Academic Year 20013-20014 scholarship is TBD.
DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) created the Undergraduate Scholarship Program to support undergraduate US students interested in studying, doing research, or completing an internship for a 4-10 month period in Germany during the German academic year. The deadline for the Academic Year 2013-2014 is TBD.
The Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) Fellowship Program provides underrepresented minority students with the education and training needed to successfully enter, advance and lead in international affairs careers. Students apply to the fellowship as Sophomores and participate in a comprehensive program of summer policy institutes, study abroad, intensive language training, internships, graduate study, mentoring and career development. In addition to funding other components of the program, the fellowship covers up to one half the cost of one semester abroad. Please visit the website for application details.
