However, in some dorms there are a few single rooms. You can apply for these but it is not guaranteed that you will be placed in your first choice.
If you plan to stay in New Orleans over the Winter Break we recommend choosing New Doris Hall. Other halls will be closed and you will be responsible for making your own living arrangements for that time period.

Note: The application is your housing contract and has the same function as a lease. Please read the housing terms and conditionals the contract carefully. Once you send your application to HRL and you are assigned to a Residence Hall you cannot get out of the contract without paying at least 50% of the semester's rent. Commitment and security deposits do not apply to exchange students. You will pay your electricity deposit when you arrive at Tulane.
Off-Campus Housing
One of the options is to live off-campus in one of the many houses close to campus. If you know that you want to live off-campus, apply for temporary housing in May. You can find the temporary housing application here:
http://www.hrl.tulane.edu/apply/2003summerINTRO.php (Student Life --> Housing and Dining --> Housing and Residence Life --> Int'l summer application).
Temporary housing is generally available between mid July and mid August. In order, to give your self enough time to find adequate housing you should arrive and move into temporary housing at least 2-3 weeks prior to the start of the semester.
There are different ways to find off-campus housing:
- Gambit Weekly: (Free New Orleans, newspaper which you can find on campus and in local coffee shops and restaurants) http://www.gambit-no.com (look under Classified --> Real Estate Rentals)
- Center for International Students and Scholars (CISS): You can find advertisements posted in the office and notebooks with off-campus housing information. In addition, other international students often look for roommates therefore you can send an e-mail through CISS addressing students who have off-campus housing available.
- Advertisements posted on kiosks on campus.
- Walk/drive around and look for FOR RENT signs and call landlords or real estates agents.
- Janice Hughes, Director for International Programs at the Business School, may be able to provide housing information to Exchange Students. Her office is located in the A.B. Freeman School of Business, Goldring/Woldenberg Hall 4th Floor, Room 451, Telephone: 504-865-5438 or 504-865-5301, jhughes@tulane.edu.
