Change of Educational Level

Change of Educational Level

An F1 student is admitted to the United States to complete a specific educational program. If a student decides to pursue a different or subsequent program at the same school, he/she must comply with procedures to remain in status when continuing from one educational level to another. Students applying for a change of educational level must follow the next procedures:

1. Follow all institutional and academic requirements for moving to a new degree level.
2. Before the end of the prior program, inform the Designated School Official of the program change, and follow the Office of International Students and Scholars' procedures for requesting a new I-20 form.
